What You Need to Do to Keep Your Cover Active
Being a Pineapple policyholder is about knowing what’s covered. This means doing your part to keep your policy valid and claims hassle-free. Here’s what we expect from you, and why it matters.
1. Accuracy of Information — The Foundation of Your Policy
Your cover is built on the details you gave us when you applied. They need to be complete, correct, and truthful, especially when it comes to material information. This refers to important information that’s used for assessing your risk (e.g., your address, regular driver, past claims, or convictions).
If your info isn’t accurate:
It could be treated as misrepresentation, omission, dishonesty, or fraud, which may lead to:
Claim rejection.
Your policy being declared invalid from the start.
Policy cancellation.
Recovery of any payouts we’ve already made.
2. Immediate Notification of Changes — Keep Us in the Loop
Life changes, and so can your risk. If something changes that affects your policy, tell us immediately. Examples include:
Change of address – even temporary.
Change of regular driver – if someone else now drives your car most often.
Change in vehicle use – e.g., switching from private to business use.
Traffic or criminal offences – if you (or anyone driving your car) have your licence endorsed, suspended, cancelled, or are charged/convicted of a traffic or criminal offence (including DUI or reckless driving).
3. Taking Reasonable Precautions — Minimising Risk
We expect you to take all reasonable steps to prevent loss, damage, injury, or liability. This includes:
Maintaining roadworthiness – brakes, tyres, lights, wipers, and other essentials must work and meet legal standards.
Safe driving – obey speed limits, adjust to road/weather conditions, and be cautious at intersections.
Securing your vehicle – always lock it and never leave keys in or on the car, or with someone who’s not responsible for it.
Tracking devices – if your policy requires one, make sure it’s installed, operational, and your service contract is active.
4. Cooperation During Claims — Working Together
If you need to claim, we’ll need your full cooperation:
Notify us quickly – as soon as possible, but within 30 days of the incident.
Provide all requested details – accident reports, photos, third-party details, proof of ownership, and other documentation.
Report to the police – within 48 hours for accidents or crimes, and give us the case number.
Towing – call us first so we can arrange an approved repairer.
No admissions – don’t admit fault, make promises, or offer compensation without our written consent.
5. Review Your Cover Regularly
Your needs can change, so check your policy often to make sure:
Your cover still matches your situation.
Your insured value reflects your vehicle’s actual replacement value.
Bottom line: Keeping your info accurate, updating us on changes, maintaining your car, and cooperating during claims helps keep your cover valid and your claims process smooth.
