The Essentials You Should Know

Your Pineapple motor insurance is here to give you peace of mind on the road, not just when accidents happen! It comes with benefits, payment rules, and important info that every Pineapple policyholder should know.

Here’s the quick (but complete) version.

The Core Purpose of Your Policy

Motor insurance is all about putting you back where you were financially just before a “Covered Event.” If your car is damaged, stolen, or causes liability to a third party in a covered incident, we’ll compensate you (minus your Excess) to get you as close as possible to your pre-incident position.

We provide cover for the following:

  • Vehicle accidents

  • Theft or hijacking

  • Fire

  • Natural disasters (storm, flood, hail)

  • Malicious damage

  • Windscreen damage

Premium Payments: How They Work

  • Your policy runs monthly, with premiums paid in advance.

  • Your Debit Date is the agreed day we collect your premium from your bank account.

  • It’s your responsibility to make sure there are enough funds in your account.

If a payment is missed:

  1. We’ll try again after 15 days.

  2. If that fails, you won’t have insurance coverage for that month.

  3. A R50 non-refundable fee applies to each failed attempt.

  4. If 3 months in a row fail, your policy is automatically cancelled from the first missed Debit Date — meaning no cover for unpaid periods.

“Pineapple Juice” — Rewards for Responsible Driving

We believe good driving deserves recognition. Pineapple Juice is our rewards programme that may give you a discretionary premium refund at the end of each Pineapple Year.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have uninterrupted coverage all year.

  • Have zero claims.

  • Pay all premiums on time.

Road Emergency Service — 24/7 Backup

Included with your comprehensive policy:

  • Assistance for flat tyres or batteries.

  • Assistance if your keys are locked inside your car.

  • Fuel delivery (fuel cost excluded).

  • Towing to the nearest approved service provider after a mechanical/electrical breakdown (not accident-related).

  • Towing and storage limit up to R4,000 total or two (2) incidents per year.

For towing, you must call Pineapple first; otherwise, extra costs could be incurred.

Key Exclusions — What’s Not Covered

Some situations just aren’t insurable. Major exclusions include:

  • Fraud, dishonesty, or misrepresentation in a claim.

  • Deliberate acts causing damage.

  • Unauthorised repairs.

  • Gross negligence (e.g., leaving keys in an unlocked car).

  • Unroadworthy vehicles.

  • Driving under the influence or without a valid license.

  • Commercial use (if not declared).

  • Consequential loss (e.g., income loss).

  • War, riots, terrorism (unless SASRIA applies).

  • Pre-existing damage.

  • Losses from grid failure or blackouts.

Your Personal Information & Privacy

We’re underwritten by Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Insure Limited and handle your personal data with care. We use it for underwriting, claims, fraud prevention, and service improvement.

You have the right to:

  • Access your data.

  • Correct it.

  • Object to processing.

  • Contact the Information Regulator if you have concerns.

Bottom line: Knowing what’s covered and excluded means fewer surprises and a smoother ride with Pineapple.
