Your Pineapple Household Contents policy protects your belongings against a wide range of events. Below are the events that Pineapple does (and doesn’t) cover, so you know exactly where you stand.
Core Covered Events
Pineapple covers loss or damage to Household Contents (furniture, personal belongings, equipment, and tenant’s fixtures/fittings) caused by:
Fire, Lightning and Explosion
Covered if caused directly by these events.
Not covered if caused deliberately by someone living in the home, or by deliberate power cuts/load shedding (unless you’ve added optional Accidental Damage cover with surge protection).
Malicious Damage
Covered if caused intentionally by an outsider.
Not covered if caused by someone living in the home, while the property is lent, let, or sublet, or if the damage is due to theft/attempted theft.
Storm, Flood, Wind, Hail or Snow
Covered if natural weather damages your contents.
Not covered if items were left outside (unless built for outdoors) or if the damage is due to gradual causes like rust, mildew, wear and tear.
Earthquake
Covered for direct damage.
Bursting, Leaking or Overflowing Pipes/Water Apparatus
Covered if contents are damaged by escaping water.
Not covered for the pipes or apparatus themselves, or damage caused by rust or corrosion.
Impact Damage
Covered if something hits your home (for example, a tree falling) and damages contents inside.
Theft or Attempted Theft (with Forced Entry)
Covered if there are visible signs of forced entry or exit (such as broken locks, doors, or windows).
Applies to outbuildings like Wendy Houses too.
Subsidence and Landslip (sinking or shifting ground)
Covered if the sinking or movement of land damages your contents.
Not covered for damage to drains, walls, fences, driveways, pools, or if caused by faulty design, poor compaction, removal of support, structural changes, or normal soil settlement. Foundation underpinning costs are excluded.
Additional Covered Events
Your policy also includes cover for specific situations:
Fire Brigade Charges – Reasonable costs charged for putting out a fire at your home.
Debris Removal – Reasonable costs of removing debris after a covered event.
Damage by Wild Baboons or Monkeys – Up to R10,000 for damage to contents inside the home.
Wendy Houses – Up to R5,000 for contents in certain outbuildings, provided forced entry is visible.
Business Goods/Equipment – Up to R10,000 for items like computers or office furniture kept at home (excludes stock-in-trade).
Guest Property – Up to R2,000 for belongings of overnight guests without other insurance (excludes money and negotiable instruments).
Domestic Staff Property – Up to R2,000 for belongings of domestic staff kept at the residence (excludes money and negotiable instruments).
Fridge/Freezer Contents – Up to R2,000 for spoiled food due to breakdown/damage or power outages longer than 24 hours. Excludes deliberate load shedding under 24 hours and repairs to the appliance.
Keys, Locks and Remotes – Up to R2,000 for repair/replacement if lost or damaged. Does not include mechanical or electrical failure.
Documents – Up to R2,000 for replacement or duplication costs of personal documents (not the information within them).
Security Guard Costs – Up to R2,000 for hiring a guard after a covered event.
Domestic Landline Phones – Up to R2,000 for accidental damage to landline phones. Mobile phones are excluded.
Garden and Leisure Equipment – Up to R2,000 for loss or damage to outdoor items like braais, jungle gyms, and garden furniture.
Your Household Contents policy covers a wide range of events, but every type of cover comes with conditions and exclusions. Knowing what applies helps you keep your insurance valid and your belongings properly protected.
